My profile

I am Daniela Olivares and I am 19 years old. I was born on a summer day in 1989, precisely, august 9th.
Now a day, I study Hispanic Literature in the National University of Mexico (UNAM). The main reason why I study this major is because I am really interested on language statements. I also enjoy reading, and lately, I am really fond of the Middle and Golden Age’s Spanish literature. Of course I also enjoy the Latin American contemporary literature. Just to say some of my favorite writers are: Fernando de Rojas, Fernando de Herrera, Garcilaso de la Vega, José Emilio Pacheco, Mario Vargas Llosa, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and more.
I have always believed that the most important thing in this life is to enjoy the things that you are doing, because may be this would be the right way to be happy.
That is why I have considered that studying this major is because are my passion and my hobby, but is not the only one. I also like listening to music, swimming, painting and sometimes writing, because these things relax me.
Traveling is another of my interests and I would like to do it more often when I get my diploma, because I would like to travel all around the globe.
I love French food, but I don’t discriminate other kind of food style.
I think that those are the most important things that describe me.

Letter to a Canadian

Hello visitor:

First of all, I want to thank you for visiting us! You may realize that this is a beautiful country! We have many things to show, things abour our History and culture mix with Architecture and popular palces. One example is the center of the town, where you could see Prehispanic and Colonial Mexico together. Here at the center you must visit the Catedral, which is one of the most important churches in Mexico City, also the Templo Mayor museum, in which you can admire the Mexican Prehispanic culture.

Maybe you have some other interests and I would like to know about them. But not everything is boring as you may think in this letter. Here at University we have some other choices like sports, painting, and theater or music concerts. You may know that we have the most important hall in all Latin America, the Nezahualcoyotl hall, and it is important because of its acoustics. Also, you can visit the MUAC museum, which is the newest museum here at the University.

You could choose which one you like the most.

Well, I think it is all for now, I hope your visit to our country be fun and that you come back some day!

Expectations

My expectation for this course, principally, is to improve in English skills.
I think that one of the most important things of this course is to learn how to write in English because it is different from the way we do it in Spanish. For me, this course would be useful because I am studying Hispanic Literature.
I am not expecting to be a writer (not in Spanish, nor in English) but I consider that it is important to be able to understand the language skills, and one of these is writing.
I have already taken an Extensive Reading course and now I can read and comprehend specialized texts.
In spite of this, I know that I am not good at writing; also I need to increase my vocabulary. Another advantage of writing will be that we can practice our grammar and it would be better if we do it through the feedback.
Finally, I just want to try and do my best.
